Trentham wins Division 1 pennant

In a stunning reversal, 'underdogs' Trentham claimed the Division 1 Section 2 Dalhousie District Scratch pennant with a victory over Euroa at Lancefield on Sunday May 6th.

After the first six matches were locked at 3-3, Trentham's Mick Kaufman was trailing badly in the remaining undecided match at 3 down with 3 to play. In a miraculous comeback, Mick won the remaining three holes to square the match, then finally won on the 20th with a masterly chip to win, and hand the pennant to Trentham 4-3.

Defibrillator purchased

Trentham Golf Club has bought a 'heart start' defibrillator for use at the club. Recognising that most of the participants at the club are in the over 50s age group, the purchase was seen as an important safety and first aid measure. Defibrillators are being universally promoted as an important first point of call to help treat heart attacks at sporting clubs.

The club took advantage of a subsidised offer through the St Johns Ambulance defibrillator program that nearly halved the price of the unit; $900 towards the purchase was raised through a fundraising charity day and the club successfully received a small equipment grant of $500 from the Hepburn Shire Council. The balance was financed by the women's and the main committee.

New greens growing in well

After completion of earthworks, installation of irrigation, a member working bee and seeding, the recent warm weather has pushed growth along and Trentham's new greens are now being mown.

Course Superintendent Bob Dobinson has done a great job completing the greens and installing irrigation. Thanks must also go to the twenty or so dedicated members who raked, shovelled and smoothed at the working bee on Wednesday March 21st. The putting surface is now thickening up nicely and being mown with a light reel mower. The surrounds are also growing well and being mown. Projected date for opening is towards the end of June, depending on conditions.

The work on the greens, on the 4th, 7th, 9th and 17th holes, will complete Trentham Golf Club's long-term renovation program. Every green on the course has now been reconstructed over a 15-year period since 1996.

The temporary course will remain in play until the greens become playable. Temporary greens, prepared to an excellent standard, are in play on the four holes.

The club apologises for any inconvenience to golfers during the works, but is excited about the improvements being made and the completion of the greens replacement program.
