Trentham website turns 21

Trentham Golf Club's website has been in operation now for 21 years. As we look forward to 2018, here is a snapshot looking back at the website since its inception.

The website first started in early 1997, and was one of the first-ever golf club websites in Australia. A fairly simple affair, it had information about the club, teetimes, fees and a response form. At the time some members wondered what this "new internet thing" was and how it was going to publicise the club.

The first Trentham Golf Club website.

By 1999 the website had a course guide, with basic hole diagrams, photos and hole information.

The 2001 version of the website had a unique 360-degree panorama.

By 2011, the website had a weekly results service, the yearly golf program, tourist and accommodation information, and travel information with a new Google map app. The website had its own domain name (trenthamgolf.com.au).

The website 2011 version

The current website now has excellent interactive capability, including videos, hole flyovers, online payment facilities for memberships, purchase of green fee passes and sponsorship invoices. Sponsors are promoted by banner advertisements that change with every visit, and their impressions and click-throughs recorded for marketing feedback.

For five years a sub-domain https://tournaments.trenthamgolf.com.au has handled all Trentham Golf Club tournament entries, with online entry for multiple players, multiple event selection and payment by credit card, Paypal or direct deposit. Over 75% of tournament entries are now handled by this website, with paper entries diminishing rapidly. The majority of golf clubs still don't have online entries for their tournaments, relying instead on paper entry form downloads.

The club's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/trenthamgolf features news, interesting photos, event promotion and competition results.

There is also an on-line shop https://shop.trenthamgolf.com.au that lists merchandise and enables online purchases of Lifestyle and Access memberships and green fee passes.

The 2018 website

The club also has a very effective but inexpensive on-line membership database and record system handled by club2ic.com. This also manages club communications to all members or just to various groups, such as starters or the committee. The savings are huge compared with old methods of paper invoices, postage, manual receipts and printed newsletters.

Colin Wilson has managed all the websites, web server and content since 1997. The aim has always been to provide good online member services, attractive information for visitors, up-to-date and interesting information through articles and news, and to promote the course through quality photos and videos. Thanks to all the members who have sent in stories, photos and information over the years, as this information is vital to the website, its effectiveness and promotion of the club.
