Helping our environment
As part of our strategic plan, Trentham Golf Club is committed to better environmental practices. In 2017, we installed a 14kW solar system that has saved the club over $2000 per year in electricity costs and reduced our carbon emissions by over 20 tonnes. We have leased new lithium-ion battery electric carts and intend (as leases run out on older petrol carts) to lease more. Now we have updated our waste management system to introduce recycling through the Hepburn Shire Council and remove the Cleanaway skip that saw all our waste going to landfill. The additional benefit is a further saving of over $2000 per year in waste management costs.
To help run the system efficiently, we would like all our members and visitors to follow these guidelines:
- The yellow-lid bins (see picture) are for recyclable waste. This means bottles, cans, paper, metal and cardboard.
- The red-lid bins are for general waste. This means items such as soft plastic, ceramics, dirty paper plates, food scraps, kitchen waste and even old golf balls!
The bins are clearly marked. To reduce contamination, we would ask all our golfers not to contaminate the yellow-lid bins with any non-recyclable rubbish. The council doesn't like it and may remove our recycling option! If in doubt, put it in the red-lid bin. Our system will only work if the right items are put in the right bins!
