Trentham's former greenkeeper for 34 years, Bob Dobinson (right), received his life membership medallion from President Keith Webster at a presentation after the competition on Saturday January 13th. Bob was elected to life membership of the Club at the Annual General Meeting on December 9th.

Bob joined Trentham as a member in 1980 and soon became active in the club. He served on the committee as Captain in 1983, and as President in 1987 and 1988. He represented the club on the committee of the former Central Districts Golf Association, including a term as President. He was always active in club working bees and other activities.

In 1988 Bob applied for the position of greenkeeper at the club and was successful. He always worked more hours than necessary to have the course in good condition, and often worked late evenings and early mornings during tournaments and events. He trained four apprentices and assisted others in turf management.

Bob was instrumental in the implementation of the Hartley Plan that saw the course redeveloped and improved between 1996 and 2016, building new greens and installing irrigation. Before his retirement, he worked long hours with a tractor and chainsaw to restore the course after the devastating storm of June 2021.

As a greenkeeper, Bob has always put the club first. As a member he was a good golfer and it was a pleasure to play in his group.
